The "Guts" to Get in the Car

I know a thing or two about Camaros from personal experience.  It was 1979 and I had just graduated from High School.  A good friend of mine had bought a brand spanking new navy blue Camaro Berlinetta.  It was senior week at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and he gave me and one other friend the honor of a ride.  If I had only known what I was getting into, I would have never gotten into that car.  I thought it was interesting that all three passengers in the car had the same first name, but that trivia was quickly forgotten as the the trip unfolded.

Our driver managed to turn what is normally a five hour trip into three-and-a-half hours of complete terror and turned me into a cowering passenger hiding in the back.  I was the one hollering "Look out"! and "Slow down!" from behind the Recaro seats the new owner was so proud of.  My dreams of living to see college seemed to be shrinking with each passing mile.  With teenage children of my own now, I look back at how dangerous that behavior was and at the same time, I am reminded how much we all desire excitement in our lives, although everyone has their limits.
